Groups can experience a wind farm in Lowell, Vermont in July and August
LOWELL, Vt. – Green Mountain Power has announced public tours of its Kingdom Community Wind project during July and August.
“This is an opportunity to see and hear an operating wind farm, and learn how GMP is harnessing the wind to make electricity for 24,000 Vermont homes,” said Dorothy Schnure, a corporate spokeswoman for Green Mountain Power.
“The June tours are already filled to capacity, and guests have been excited to visit the completed project."
Green Mountain Power’s Certificate of Public Good limits the number of people on a tour, and restricts public tours to one day per week from June through August to minimize the impact on wildlife.
The tours last about 90 minutes, and visitors are able to get out near the base of two of the 21 turbines.
Tours are offered at 10 a.m. Wednesdays on July 3, 10, 17 and 31 and Aug. 7, 14 and 21; and at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Saturdays on July 27 and Aug. 31.
To sign up for a tour, contact Gert Tetreault at (802) 744-6664. Advance registration is required, with the name of each person in a group necessary to attend.
