MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. — The Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau (MCCVB) has named Tammy Blount as the organization’s new president and CEO.
Blount will lead the MCCVB’s current sales and marketing initiatives including strategies laid out in the organization’s 2011-2012 marketing plan, while leveraging a $4.9 million budget.
Blount is set to begin work at the MCCVB on Feb. 1. She is currently director of the Tacoma Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau in Washington state.
She’ll report to the MCCVB’s Executive Committee and lead the MCCVB’s staff of 26. She will also be involved with organization’s efforts to hire a new director of sales.
“Tammy Blount’s experience in the tourism industry as well as her proven leadership and advocacy for convention and visitors bureaus will be great assets in the MCCVB’s efforts to bring more overnight visitors to the area,” said John Lloyd, MCCVB chairman of the board and co-chair of the MCCVB’s Search Committee.
The nationwide search began in September 2011, after the departure of President and CEO John Reyes.
“Her track record at the Tacoma and Vancouver Convention and Visitors Bureaus demonstrate the results our destination is looking to get in both the group and leisure markets. We’re confident she’ll build upon the success already underway within the organization,” Lloyd said.
Blount offers 20 years of destination marketing experience, from sales and marketing campaigns to administration and funding of convention and visitors bureaus. She also serves on the board of the international tourism industry organization, Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) and as co-chair of DMAI’s advocacy committee.
While in Tacoma, Blount led initiatives that more than doubled resources for regional destination marketing and built strategic industry alliances.
Blount holds an FCDME (Fellow Certified Destination Marketing Executive) certification and enjoys golf, music and spending time with family.
